Saturday, December 4, 2010

Shall post a few commonly asked questions here.
Hope it will help.
But you will get a clearer picture if you follow the back dated posts.

1.Why is Robin rehomed 3 times? Is it because of his health, peeing or behavior?
Robin has been rehomed 2 times since we found him.

Home 1(temple): He stayed in a temple for close to 4months. But he fell sick, so after he recovered, we packed him to Home 2.
Home 2: A NS boy is his primary care-taker. But as he is hardly home due to NS, his mum and family members look after Robin. They want to give Robin up now because he does not pee at the correct place. They have kept him for 3months now.

So unless you count his owner that abandoned him, then it's 3.

2. Why is he incontinent?

We do not know the cause of his incontinence. Old age, UTI or physiological may/may not be the cause. During his vet visits then, we were more concerned with his liver health, so we did not pursue this matter.
His incontinence problem can be described as a few drips of urine left behind at the spot which he had rest on for a long period of time.

3. How is Robin now?
He is now healthy and in need of a new home by this week.

4. What will happen to him?

Robin is going to meet 2 potential adopters tomorrow. If he gets along with their pets, they are willing to adopt him.

5. Condition and where was he was found?

Robin was found at a void deck at Seng Kang. He was then obese and already incontinent.

5. Are we connected to any welfare organisation?

NO. We are just trying to help Robin find a permanent home, but we are currently receiving enormous support from various rescue groups, esp. areas like spreading the word. We appreciate it very much.

6. How old are we and our occupation.

We are 20 this year and are students of Nanyang poly.

Robin needs a new home

Robin needs a home again.

THIS IS AN UPDATE CONSISTING OF OUR MOST RECENT VISIT(abt 2mths ago)

We hate for this to happen, we dread it, but Robin needs a home AGAIN.
He loves his family that he soon has to leave.
The reason given is that he pees any-o-how.
But ...

When he stayed with me for the week.
Other than scent marking once.. he proved to be paper trained.
What more.. if you, like me, dont have a garden,
taking him downstairs to pee at set timings, will save you the trouble of cleaning after him.
Of cos, consistency is key.
If you have a garden, =)))~~!

Healthy, Playful and Non-aggressive.
The vet has given his health an all clear sign. he is no longer on any kind of medication.
Playful and loving, warms up to people after a while.

Note:
The only problem is that he is a bit incontinent, it is not a big problem. It is like 1 or 2 drips at the spot he rest on for a long period of time.
Therefore, we hope to find him a home with garden so that people will be more tolerant of his condition

2 criteria
  • No parental objection
  • Commitment- we really hate for him to resettle into a new family again.

He will go with his current belongings-
Bed, leash, toys and i'm willing to provide help wherever needed.

Bill #02 (03/07/10) -please help ->[SPONSORED!]

Bill: $68.35

This bill is for his medication given by James Tan veterinary Centre (the previous one we have been going to)
We were told to finish up Robin's medication (esp antibiotics) by the doctor at Mt pleasant.
As we were not able to go back to the temple to collect his unfinished medicine, which included antibiotics, we popped by James Tan Vet to get some for him.
Dr Sim went through his report and medication he was given at Mt pleasant before subscripting him the additional ones.
So do not worry people, it is safe.

***Please help us out with this bill***

Dr Sim has been a great, compassionate and understanding doctor.
As we were on a tight budget then, she took great pains to plan out which route would be the best for him and our pockets.
With limited resources, she managed to diagnose Robin correctly.
And Robin has been making tremendous improvements under her care.
However, so as not to trouble our kind sponsor, we went over to Mt pleasant for his further tests.
She even provided the previous test reports FOC!

THANK YOU SO MUCH DR SIM AND ALL THE ASSISTANTS @ James Tan Veterinary Centre!

Blood test result and Bill 03/07/10[PAID]

Blood test result
His RBC count has significantly improved! by 3x to a still low but safe range of 28%. he would no longer need a blood transfusion as his body is making it's own RBC!

Bill

Grateful thanks to our kind sponsor.
Please do NOT make any donations for this bill as it has been fully sponsored. thanks!

VISIT TO THE VET 4: MT PLEASANT

Today's visit to the vet was a very long one.
Robin was full of life and couldn't sit still.
and as usual, he enjoyed his car rides.
A kind sponsor, Ms Ang, offered to pay for his bills at Mt pleasant.
A detailed blood test was done for him.

Robin's bandage after his blood test.

Robin's liver is unwell. other than that, he is doing okay!
He is eating well but his weight is not going up. (they are suspecting worms)

Robin is now at other friend's friend house.
this is because he is on a lot on medication. I'm worried that it might be too much work for my aunt.
Should he settle down well in his current home, he may be calling it forever home!

will be posting up his blood test result and bills transcripts.

Went over to the temple today bec of urgent matters.
super happy to see Robin. bought him a ball on the way there!
he was jumping when he got near me, then i gave him the ball and he never quite gave me the same amt of welcome again. hahaa.

Honestly, i dont feel that i am able to make a clear decision for him bec i keep feeling for both sides.
so Siting, shd you feel strongly abt smth, just tell me.
First, there's alr a bond between my aunt and robin.
2nd, Robin may not be a nervous dog, but he's abit shy. i noticed that when he was at my place. so to foster him out now, when he is improving(seems to be), i really dun know..
3rd, compared to sun, he seems a bit fatter!! and more lively. to me, this are like visible improvements, but i'm not qualified to say he is. so there may be error in judgement.

rehoming him is definitely on our minds.. i think my aunt understands.

plus points for Robin:
mild-tempered
non aggressive
short fur, low maintenance
paper trained
house breaking trained
100% loyal. which means he only follows 1 person but when there's food, different story.
with time and interaction, no need to leash when bringing for walks. he follows you.

minus points:
bites concrete, paint off iron bars and tile floorings.
loud bark esp when there are ppl at the door. bec of his loud and low voice, quite scary.
tends to whine a little, when the person who looks aft him isn't ard
big appetite. will bite a hole out of your pocket.

wishing him and us best of luck,
vic

thank you!

Robin is going to be cure!
ok, a kind lady named Pabble is willy to bring robin to Mt. Pleasant Hospital and will foot the bill.
another kind lady named Lalitha Naidu is willy to donate blood :)
another two kind soul are willy to donate money for robin.
First of all, Thank You!
now, i am waitin for Vic's call.
and because we gave robin to the aunt.
i tink vic will need to talk to her first before we move robin to anywhere.
so now, i am waiting..... and when vic gets back to me, i'll inform miss pabble.
aft all, i hope miss pabble is going to adopt robin.
robbin needs a home.

we are just poly student without income and much time i guess?
everyone seem to be busy over with test, project and attachment.
well tis is our final year hence we will be more busy den b4.
Pls dun blame us for not putting him in the hospital in the very first place.
we did try our best to help him.

Thanks everyone.

Robin at temple

Robin is now under the care of my aunt at the temple.
i try to get updates of him everyday.
From what i heard, he's doing okay there.
His appetite is good and is still on medication.

His next review will be in 2 weeks time.
till then.

st: we did not bring him for grooming cos the Dr sim say waste money. Hahah. Instead, she just provided us with ear solution to clean his ears which i have done so. ohh. she gave us permission to bathe him(using warm water) too, so we did that too. :)

VISIT TO THE VET 3

Do not let this picture deceive you.

Just came home after bringing Robin to see Dr Sim.
He's actually more pale than before,
which possibly is bec his RBC count is getting lower.
It really can be quite frustrating, cos each day u see his improvements, den when you go to the vet, his report shows otherwise.

Will be scanning in the bill in a separate post.

hopes he gets well soon.

miss robin!
hope he's doin fine and feeling healthy :)
wonder if that's improvement in his RBC count not.
reali hope he can find a good owner la. haix.
Robin!! JIA YOU!!
Ting

Robin..Robin!

Many have asked how Robin's doing.
so here's a quick update of his progress. :)

His current toilet pan.

since he was already paper trained by his past owner. we are now training him to aim properly in the pan. he pees a lot; like at least 6 times a day. most prolly cos of his liver problem. big puddle! like a tap being left on for 30s.

Jealous Ray.

They are now starting to bark back at each other. which can be really noisy at times. Ray doesnt like him much, but he looks out for Robin every now and then. really cute!

Robin was fed 4 times, but it is now being reduced to 2. has completed some medication and only has a few left. He's really greedy, but is quite a picky eater.

ohh! he likes being in the house. Thou still weak, he's such an opportunist and would try to sneak in.

If everything goes well on Friday, we will be looking to re-homing him.
My aunt dotes on him, however, there are young kids in her house, so she would only be able to put him up in the temple. we are still trying to work something out with her.
someone who has past experience(s) with dogs, and able to give him TLC would be ideal. Retirees will suit him too. :)

Blood test result

The vet just called.
His liver isn't doing too good.
we are now faced with 3 options.
1. blood transfusion
2.continue testing medicines
3. put to sleep.

With the great news frm siting, blood transfusion can now go ahead. however, it doesnt solve anything. it would just to help him feel better by pushing up his RBC count.
To continue testing out which medicine works, is going to be costly in the long run.
To put him to sleep will not be considered for now.

He is really looking good today. managed a dash to the door to bark. dun know if this is giving us false hope.
prolly, will bring him for a last review on friday. then we will follow through the options.
may just let him be if his health continues to look positive.

thats it for now.
sry for short post. have to start mugging for exams.
take care.

vic

VISIT TO THE VET 2

Robin just came back from the clinic.
We still do not know what is happening inside his body.
and he was diagnosed with jaundice today. =(
took another blood test to find out if there is anything wrong with his liver.
his blood test result will only be out tomorrow
so more medication to eat for now..

we also found out more about the blood transfusion from the vet.
the donor dog has to undergo anaesthesia-induced sleep. which would involve a risk for the dog itself.
the transfusion plus everything including hospitalisation would cost ard $800.
looking at rehomers for help now shd he need a transfusion.

He appeared more alert today.
being able to walk about, we felt quite hopeful for him.
his appetite has been good. and his bowels are ok too.
although he still tires out easily and sleeps a lot.

have to go NTUC to buy Dettol and some sanitizers, bec jaundice is contagious!
abit worried for dear Ray.. going to be a hygiene freak soon!

would be scanning in the bill in a separate post. :)

VISIT TO THE VET 1

During a casual visit, we found that Fat-robin has lost much weight.
Worried, we brought him to the vet.
The visit to the clinic was depressive.
He was pale and weak, and as we were not able to give detailed information about his daily life, the vet was not able to make a diagnosis.
It could be anything, including cancer.
The vet told us 2 options,
to treat him, which will be very expensive, or put him to sleep.
she described his lethargy as like someone that hasnt slept for days,
given his condition, he most likely needed a blood transfusion.
even then, a blood transfusion is just the start of treatment, a mean to buy time.
she then did a simple blood test for him to analyse his blood count.
Fat-robin was then given medication and sent home to rest.

The vet called that night to inform us of his results.
his Red Blood Cell was only 8%.
anything below a 2 digit figure, she wouldn't recommend treatment as he would probably die.
she suspected tick fever, but nothing could be confirmed.

Clinic he is being treated at:
JAMES TAN veterinary centre pte ltd
230 Whitley Road, Singapore 297823

About Fat-robin

This is fat-robin. He is estimated to be a 6-7 year old boy. A mild-tempered and non-aggressive boy, he will melt your heart. This picture just doesn't say enough for him! sweet natured, but can be a little shy so he does not like to take pictures much. Ohh..he enjoys car rides too!

An easy to maintain dog.. he was found at a void deck in Feb this year. He was then housed in a temple.. recently, his health has taken a toll. =(
